We are using our company website to add & delete names of service personnel as their status changes.
This will allow us the flexibility to control the names. We have learned that our 1st list from last November
is still travelling thru the internet and the troops have since returned home. A recommendation from a
deployed chaplain is to use the service member's name & add "or any service member."
These names are provided by their leaders and family, so please do not expect return mail.
We do this to show our support & to keep them motivated.
Semper Fidelis!!
Overseas Mail Delays
Something as simple as adding the name of the destination country to an
address can delay the delivery of mail to service members overseas. By
writing "Iraq" or "Kuwait" on a letter or package it is routed through
civilian mail channels rather then military ones. Significant delays
in mail delivery can be attributed to the sorting machine's inability
to discern whether or not the letter is intended to reach an Army or
Fleet Post Office address. To alleviate this situation, senders need
to follow the latest rules for the military postal service. They can
be located at:
http://www.usps.com/communications/news/press/2003/pr03_018.htm
Note: Some Postal Offices may misinterpret the Policy with using "Commanding Officer"
In addition, we remind
supporters that no political views, or inappropriate
views or language will be tolerated.
If mail is returned e-mail AmberWavesFlag@aol.com so the list can be updated.
Some units are asking for small "Universal" type toys to give the children
Kool Aid type packages, handi-wipes, kleenex, pocket books, Under-Armor Shirts (Dark),
Tan or Oliver Drab colored t-shirts, weather is getting cooler at night.
coffee, creamer, magazines, CDs, DVDs, aaa and aa batteries, sweatshirts, metric automotive tools for the vehicles we use.
Yellow ribbons tied around trees and red, white and blue stickers on the backs SUVs saying "Support our Troops" are things that make civilians feel good but do nothing for the men and women actually in uniform.
So please consider the following:
The number ONE request at Walter Reed hospital is phone cards. The government doesn't pay long distance phone charges and these wounded soldiers are rationing their calls home.
Send phone cards of any amount to:
Medical Family Assistance Center
Walter Reed Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20307-5001
They say they need an "endless" supply of these -- any amount even $5 is greatly appreciated.
Walmart has good prices on AT&T cards, Sams Club is better, if you are a member.
The backpack program is the brainchild of the Wounded Warrior Project, one of the many charities doing their part in the war on terror. Their Web site: http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
John Melia, a founder of Wounded Warrior, A former Marine, he was injured in 1992 when his helicopter crashed near Somalia in a training exercise.
Some of the Hqtrs types have near daily access to Microwaves, and the field Marines come in every six days for a day or two and can get access. The popcorn would be eaten.
The usual stuff is appreciated out here -coffee, beef jerky, Copenhagen chewing tobacco, cigars, dried fruit, nuts, trail mix, granola bars, hard candy, paperback books, magazines, etc.
No Pornographic Material, Chocolate or foods subject to spoilage should be sent.
The young men and women are requesting anything that is warming; cups of soup, hot cocoa, individual coffee packs and tea bags.
They Need "Fly" Strips! Flies are horrible!
This Mailing List is for the purpose of supporting our Troops! Senders should not send death threats or other harmful comments or packages to our Troops
